Based in Nottingham, Eat Sleep Live create beautiful hand crafted furniture, exclusively utilising reclaimed wood sourced from historic buildings dotted around the United Kingdom.
Founder and craftsman Mark Godsell-Fletcher spent years studying Interior Design and Product Design at Nottinghamshire College in Mansfield. While others worked on gadgets, Mark found himself drawn into the world of interiors, with an aspiration to fulfil the gap in the market for fine British handmade furniture.
The name itself, Eat Sleep Live, describes exactly what the brand caters for – the dining room, the bedroom, and the living room. Whether it’s a bed, a TV stand or a dining table, the Nottingham-based brand is sure to have something for everyone.
Eat Sleep Live offer a number of beautiful, naturally characterful pieces in a quintet of sophisticated styles. This month, we explore the first of these, and the brand’s latest venture, The Cavendish Collection.
In an in-depth conversation about Eat Sleep Live, Mark informed me that The Cavendish Collection is the most popular range offered by the brand to collectors and clients alike. Eat Sleep Live describe how The Cavendish Collection bears “a strong, rebellious quality.”
The collection blends reclaimed wood taken from old, highly acclaimed British buildings – Mark would go on to tell me some of the wood utilised in Eat Sleep Live furniture was sourced from an 18th century mill – with shimmering, seamless brushed stainless steel. Blending the contemporary with the classical, Mark hopes to redefine the term “modern rustic design.”
The infusion of stainless steel with reclaimed wood creates an illusion of the reclaimed wood ‘floating’ above the brushed metal, sure to be a beautiful piece to complement any room of the house, while serving as a guaranteed conversational piece, with “that strokeable factor”, as one of Mark’s many clients worded it.
Eat Sleep Live will be exhibiting their characteristic reclaimed wood furniture at Grand Designs Live 2017 between the 29th April and the 7th May, held at the ExCeL London exhibition and conference centre. Tickets are available here; http://gdllondon.seetickets.com/tour/grand-designs-live-2017
