Congratulations are in order as Rule the World gallops to victory at the Grand National 2016.

The 9 year old Bay Gelding surpassed the 33-1 odds placed on it by bookies across the country, seizing the gold in Saturday’s main event. Ridden by 19 year old David Mullins, Rule the World was trained by Mouse Morris, and was remarkably Mullins’ first ride in The Grand National, giving Morris a double victory after his previous success with Rogue Angel at the Irish National last month.

This monumental win marks Rule the World’s first win over fences, and comes as somewhat of a golden lining, after the death of Morris’ son in Argentina in the summer of last year.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the marathon, Morris cited “This is just magic. I've got great friends who stood by me and helped. I'd have settled for third at the Elbow but he ran on like a train. He has broken his pelvis in two falls and before that he was one of the best horses I ever had.”

Jockey David Mullins, nephew of Irish professional racehorse trainer Willie Mullins, described the victory as being “special and magic”, adding “It was just amazing. I've never had a feeling like this and it all went to plan. To get the call to ride this horse was amazing. The fact that it is his first win over fences is more amazing than me winning on my first time around.”
