“It started but with a grain of sand, with colours and shapes bouncing in my mind – sand and ideas; that’s all it is.”
Since opening the TSZebra studio in 2004, with not only a dream of exhibiting her own artwork, but to invite others to learn and share her glass vision and knowledge, founder Deborah Moses’ vision attracts students from all over the world. The brand’s name, ‘The Silver Zebra’ stems back to Deborah’s love of music, with a particular love of David Bowie and Marc Bolan. The lyrics to the title track of 1972 T Rex album ‘Debora’ cite “Oh Debora, always look like a zebra”, with ‘zebra’ serving as a nickname for many years. This, accompanied by ‘silver’ to describe her kiln formed glass, which was utilized in the “Beneath the Tide” and “When Deer Lay Down” series, spawned the name, ‘The Silver Zebra.’
The recent launch of Geos & Constellations at Bang & Olufsen was met with positive acclaim, with Moses being resident on various dates throughout the summer, warmly inviting members of the public to come in and meet the artist herself. Pushing the boundaries of her craft and ability, Moses plans to evolve Geos & Constellations to incorporate the thought provoking ‘energy boxes’, which will exhibit all year round at Bang & Olufsen Wilmslow.
Deborah recently collaborated with The Clubhouse, located in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, after a conversation with fashion designer and celebrity stylist, Tony Q’aja, at the Geos & Constellations exhibition. The Clubhouse is a collaboration of the finest businesses, acclaimed for their excellent service. Deborah plans to display her ‘Antler’ series in the near future, and will be at The Clubhouse across a plethora of dates in the year. Speaking about the launch, Deborah expressed how much of a lovely evening was enjoyed by all, meeting partners, clients and friends alike.
For those wanting to try their hand at kiln formed glass, etching or engraving, Deborah offers a variety of glass workshops, perfect for anyone ranging from a complete novice to intermediates. With five different classes available ranging from an afternoon to an in-depth 3 day session, there’s something for everyone at The Silver Zebra. Prices start from just £85 per workshop, including all the materials you need for kiln formed glass, a farmhouse lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Speaking about the classes, Moses expressed how grateful she is for those in attendance, and how it never ceases to amaze her the distances people travel to share in her knowledge and craft, with customers regularly coming from all over the world to take part.
