Rolls-Royce – A New Dawn

Rolls Royce Dawn

Rolls-Royce Dawn

Quite simply, it is the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built.

Dating all the way back to 1884, the Rolls-Royce is a cornerstone of British history, and a quintessentially British icon of flawless engineering, even featuring in a number of James Bond films in their illustrious heritage. On a cold October afternoon, The Foxley Docket had the opportunity to visit the prestigious Rolls-Royce Showroom in Knutsford, Cheshire, to sit behind the wheel of the new Rolls-Royce Dawn.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Rupert Andrews, our contact at Rolls-Royce’s communications agency, who in turn introduced us to James Warren, the Communications Manager for the UK and Western Europe at Rolls-Royce. We sat with James and had an in-depth, fascinating discussion where he delved into the brand’s heritage and the craftsmanship involved in these British pieces of automotive artistry.

James’ passion for the British brand radiated with every word, talking at length about the apprenticeship scheme offered by Rolls-Royce. He explained in detail how apprentices are taken on and evolved, soon finding themselves a part of the Rolls-Royce experience, helping to put these British icons on the road.

Then the moment of truth came – we were introduced to our chariot for the afternoon, the Rolls-Royce Dawn. Midnight sapphire in colour with a navy blue hood, the car felt every bit as sleek and sophisticated as it looked with its mandarin and navy blue interior. This is perfectly complemented by a rosewood canadel open pore veneer.

It truly was the supreme experience you’d imagine from such an elegant vehicle – smooth and effortless, yet retaining that feeling of control and absolute safety. It’s doubtful ‘danger’ and ‘Rolls-Royce’ have ever rolled off the tongue in the same sentence. Sensually stylish in its aesthetic, the Rolls-Royce Dawn embodies the new age of open-top, super luxury motoring, which the brand aspires towards – every creation is a step forward.

Navigating the roads connecting the county of Cheshire, all the movie-esque clichés one would associate with driving a fast car down an open road came to life – the feeling of the wind in your hair as you cruise down a country road is simply unrivalled. In that situation, it’s simply hard to believe. Real life, real world, real people.

To conclude, the Rolls-Royce Dawn is a certified head turner. The engine under the bonnet roared like a beast unleashed, devouring the road in a loving, meticulous manner, although little less is to be expected from a twin-turbo 6.6 litre V12 engine. 60 pairs of hands go into the creation of the Rolls-Royce Dawn, while 450 hours are spent designing, constructing and crafting the Rolls-Royce before it’s handed over to its owner. The Rolls-Royce Dawn’s stunning leather interior consists of over 400 pieces of the softest, finest crafted leather to ensure maximum comfort and effortless style. Mark Courts, Coachline Painter at Rolls-Royce, spends three hours painting the pinstripe on this voluptuous vehicle, entirely by hand.

We spent just 30 minutes behind the wheel of the Rolls-Royce Dawn, yet it became undeniable that this was no ordinary car; it was a piece of perfectly crafted precision motor engineering – a true credit to the heritage of Rolls-Royce.
