With Father’s Day fast approaching, motoring enthusiasts look ahead to the upcoming Silverstone Classic.
Taking place over the weekend of the 29th July and screeching to a close on the 31st July, the Silverstone Classic is the biggest classic motor racing festival in the world, and also offers unrivalled entertainment suitable for the whole family, especially with the announcement of a new ‘family ticket’ option. The event takes place at Silverstone Circuit in Northampton, where the FIA Formula One World Championship was born, and plays host to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
Over the course of the three days, attendees are invited to enjoy an array of attractions and activities providing the entertainment up until a dazzling roster of nailbiting races dominate on the infamous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, featuring a number of rare and highly sought after racing cars from days gone by.
The unquestionable race cards promise to deliver the most exhilarating and beautiful grids that Britain has to offer, ranging from the classical vintage machines of the 1930’s ranging to the high tech technology riddled vehicles of the 21st century. This wide assortment of cars allows guests to be taken on a journey through time, exploring the history behind Formula 1, Le Mans, GT Cars, sports and touring.
2016’s Northampton event sees two groundbreaking showdowns for monumental Can-Am automobiles plus a major tribute commemorating the 40th Anniversary of James Hunt’s world championship winning campaign in 1976. Celebrities booked to appear include Australian former Grand Prix motorcyclist and touring race car driver, Wayne Gardner, alongside American former world champion motorcycle racer, ‘Fast’ Freddie Spencer and English multiple sidecar world champion Steve Webster – just three of dozens of legendary riders and stars from older generations to emphasise the nostalgic nature of the Silverstone Classic.
Over 10,000 cars will be lovingly displayed on the infield, featuring top of the range names such as Ferraris and Maseratis, stretching back to classic cars including vintage Morgans and MGs, with breathtaking displays from brands such as Lamborghini, Porsche and Viper to celebrate various milestones in their company histories.
Live music is a key part of any event, something which Silverstone are well aware of, hosting bands such as Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats, who take to the stage on Friday evening, while Reef of “Place Your Hands” fame and The Stranglers headline on the Saturday – entry to see these bands is included within the overall ticket prices for the event. This entertainment is accompanied by a vintage funfair, aerial displays, a trio of auctions, a hot air balloon display, helicopter flights sure to give guests a picturesque view of the venue, an exhilarating streetcar shoot-out and many more to cater to the needs of every motoring fanatic in attendance. “Wheeler Dealers” host Mike Brewer will be on hand to present Car Clinic shows and a live Range Rover restoration, both of which are presented by eBay, with huge TV screens broadcasting all the action of Silverstone, making it truly the most remarkable event on the calendar this summer.
Speaking about the Silverstone Classic, CEO of the organizers, Goose Live Events, Nick Wigley, commented, “The Silverstone Classic is the biggest and best classic motor racing festival in the world as well as one of Europe’s most entertaining and action packed car themed events. There really is something for everyone – that’s why a family day out at the Silverstone Classic is the perfect Father’s Day gift for any dad with even the smallest drop of high-octane fuel in his veins.”
With its ‘access all areas’ policy, purchase of a ticket (starting at just £42) grants the customer access to both racing paddocks and pit complexes and trackside grandstands.
