The Silver Zebra – A Year in Review

2

The Silver Zebra studio, based in Cheshire, was established in 2004 by Deborah Moses, who has since been producing the finest contemporary designs in kiln formed glass, valued by collectors, interiors designers, galleries and partners, Bang & Olufsen Wilmslow.

Deborah recently put herself and Cheshire on the map when she was commissioned to produce several installations for the prestigious Tour of Britain, a multi stage cycling race, where cyclists race from one end of Great Britain to the other. Cheshire East hosted Stage 3 of the tour and in celebration of this, Deborah produced a huge 5 meter square installation comprising of bicycle and glass of course and placed in the beautiful surroundings overlooking the Mere of Tatton Park near the finish line, another installation made up of 4 bicycles was placed on Middlewich Roundabout.

The incredible sculptures on display utilise bicycles to commemorate the Tour’s nature, while incorporating delicate kiln formed glass pieces embellished with scenes of Cheshire and its history including the Tour of Britain. Deborah was also responsible for creating the Winner’s Trophy, which was designed by a pupil from local primary school, Prestbury School, Charlotte Ward, who won a competition to earn the privilege. It was great to see that a Cheshire cyclist, Ian Stannard, would go on to win this stage.

To commemorate this national treasure, The Silver Zebra’s studio has a legacy book on display which follows the development of the project from its humble beginnings to how it proudly stands today, which Deborah describes as being “a great insight for visitors to see.”

In the build-up to Christmas, which seems to come around quicker and quicker every year to the joy/dismay of families everywhere, Deborah offers aspiring artists the chance to take some time out of their hectic schedules to try their hand at fused glass. The Silver Zebra’s Christmas Workshops open their doors at 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, during which budding artists are invited to enjoy refreshments, Christmas buffet lunch and homemade hot mince pies.
